GLADYS WHITESELL 'THE CHARMER' x MEM BILL QUINN 'HENDERSON'

A,B,C,D

614

Mem Bill Quinn 'Henderson' is one of the parents in the successful Mem Andy Warhol cross where many plants gained awards. Instead of combining it with Fifi we have used a Fifi hybrid. Resulting progeny should be good. Green and off white, intermediates with spotted and blotched labellums, pendulous type racemes in September.

GLADYS WHITESELL 'THE CHARMER' x PARISH LADY 'APRICOT PIE'

A,B,C

Both parents have lots of blotches in the labellum due to Cym parishii influence. Progeny will be as well. Pendulous racemes, intermediate in size in the off white and pastel shades. Parish Lady is a cross of Parish Jewel with Cym parishii. September flowering.

GLADYS WHITESELL 'THE CHARMER' x ROBIN 'LITTLE JOHN'

A,B,C,D

616

I have flowered some interesting novelty type flowers with 'Little John' but have not used it with a small flower before. 'Little John' normally passes onto its progeny very dark red, solid bars in the labellum. Hoping this will occur in this cross. The fault of the low flower count of 'Little John' progeny should also be overcome with the high flower count of  'The Charmer'. Pastel shades with black labellums, intermediate in size on pendulous racemes expected for September.

GOLDEN CELEBRATION 'PINK TINGES' x HAZEL TYERS 'SANTA MARIA'

A,B,C,D

622

Hazel Tyers 'Santa Maria' is a parent of the famous show winning Valley Splash 'Awesome'. It passes on splashes of colour to its progeny. 'Golden Celebration' is similar in also having splashes of colour in the flowers. Expect good shaped , standard flowers that have a white background with splashes of pink colour. Red banded labellums should also come through from 'Santa Maria'. August flowering.

A cross made to produce spotted standards in the pink shades. Jason Deans has parents of Pink Globe with Satsuma. GOLDEN CELEBRATION 'PINK TINGES' x TERAMA 'ROBIN'

A,B,C,D

Can one break the colour of Terama up into spots. From my experience the answer to this question is no, but one can get bands of colour. Hoping 'Robin' will intensify the edging of colour in the resulting outcome or add a mid line of darker colour in the flowers. Outcome should be interesting. Pink standards for August.

GOLDEN ELF 'SUNDUST' 4N x OLYMILUM 'WHITE ELF' 4N

It is very hard to improve the shape of the progeny when using 'Sundust'. 'White Elf' has been known to do this. Seen some of the progeny of this cross already. Pastel yellows to bright yellows flowering from March with reasonable shape have been seen. Pure colour type flowers.

Flowered a couple of the progeny and they have me concerned that I cannot see any influence from Cym lancifolium. Not sure if I have stuffed up in the making of the cross or whether 'Sundust' has just predominated. Will have to wait to see more progeny. Golden Elf 'Sundust' type flowers have been seen so far.

One of the progeny that has flowered had stunning colour being a bright yellow with a heavily barred, red labellum, with the band covering half of the labellum. Its fault was that the edge of the labellum turned under. Shape was good. Intermediate in size. Hoping to see some good progeny from this cross.

We flowered one of the progeny and it turned out stunning. A crystal white, intermediate flower with dark red spots all over with yellow keels and a yellow dot in the centre of the labellum. Shape was reasonable, segments were full, but the tips of the petals were slightly pointed. I have kept the plant to review it on another flowering. Maybe a future cultivar for cloning. HARRY SAKELL 'TINY' x mastersii

There is a potential here for these to be flower machines. One of the small plants that has flowered had three flower racemes off its second bulb. White flowers, intermediate in size with some red spots in the labellum. Shape will be a little open due to the species influence of Cym mastersii. Cym mastersii will also bring the flowering time forward. Expect June / July.

Hazel Fay 'Orange Glow' x Giant's Causeway 'Kaitlin'

Giant's Causeway is a cross of Karen and Autumn Crisp. 'Kaitlin' flowered as a green standard with a red spotted and barred labellum. There are green genes in the grand parents of both parents. Normally one would expect orange shades. When crossed with the stunning, orange standard of 'Orange Glow' one would expect orange standards. Will this be the case in this cross when a green and orange have been combined. August / September flowering.
